Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do pup-powered treadmills (slatmills) work?
The slatmills have NO MOTORS, utilize no electricity, are low-resistance and low impact, and move at the speed your dog designates. When they move, it moves. When they slow, it slows. When they stop, it stops. There is no weight limit or size minimum.
  • How long are the sessions? Do you offer longer/shorter sessions?
30 minutes is the ideal duration, according to veterinarians, to maintain cardiovascular activity, mental attention, and muscle growth without pushing your dog too hard and running the danger of fatigue-related injury. For this reason, we do not offer longer sessions. If a dog is not physically or medically able to complete a full session, or if their condition prevents them from exercising, then sessions may be shorter. Our canine fitness coaches can discuss the possibility of shorter sessions based on your dogs individual needs and abilities after their first session.
  • How long will it take for my dog to learn how to use the treadmill?
Every dog is different. It is completely normal for dogs to be a little scared or nervous their first time, but with some encouragement from you and our fitness coaches, your dog will be a pro in no time! Each time your dog does a workout with us, their confidence in themselves and the equipment grows, leading to a more fun and stress-releasing session. We have no doubt that your dog's cardio day will be their favorite day of the week!
  • What are your requirements to work with my dog?
Always clear any physical activity with your veterinarian first. All our canine clients must be at least 4 months old and be up to date on all vaccinations (proof of current vaccines is required). We can accommodate anywhere from 2 lbs – 250 lbs and have experience with a wide variety of mental and physical concerns; from scared, anxious, stubborn and reactive; to overweight, pre/post-surgery, or otherwise limited in one way or another. Please let us know your dog’s needs and we’ll do our best to accommodate. We are also happy to work with your veterinarian to create a suitable fitness plan for your dog's specific needs.
  • Can you run multiple dogs at the same time? What if my dog doesn't get along with other dogs?
Yes! We currently can accommodate 2 dogs at the same time, but plan to expand to up to 4 dogs soon! The benefit of our mobile dog gym is that the runs are completely private 1:1 sessions. The only time we have multiple dogs running together is when they live together or are pre-approved neighbors/friends.
  • What should I expect BEFORE a session?
Take a potty break, get leashed up and ready to go! If you have a favorite harness you like to use, go ahead and put them in it for their session. Otherwise, we provide harnesses for safety and comfort during their run. Please make sure that any feedings are handled at least 2 hours before their session. Once we arrive, please bring your dog(s) out to the van or let us know if you’ll need help at the door, we are happy to accommodate! (If scheduling a time while you are not home, no need to worry about anything. Just please no feedings within 2 hours of scheduled appointment time).
  • What should I expect DURING a session?
We come directly to your door with our climate-controlled van, pup-powered treadmills (aka NON MOTORIZED slatmills), and an enthusiastic pup fitness coach. We will fit your dog into a padded & breathable harness (if they don't have their own) designed for comfort and better balance. We will introduce your pup to the van and acclimate them to the treadmills at their pace. We focus on ensuring your pup not only feels secure and confident during their session, but also has fun! Their entire session will last about 30 minutes.
  • How often should I run my dog?
We offer weekly, bi-weekly, and on-demand scheduling. Most people schedule the same day and time once a week for consistency and find it beneficial both mentally and physically. Some of our clients that have physical or environmental limitations that don't allow for other forms of exercise between appointments, prefer to increase to twice a week in order to keep their dog fulfilled. You are the one who knows your dog and their needs the best!
  • Can I watch my dog's session?
Of course! We encourage owners to join us for the first session or 2 until your dog is comfortable with us and their new fitness journey. After that, you're welcome to hang out and enjoy the fun, or continue with your day. Your pup will thank you either way.
  • Do I need to be home?
No, that's part of what makes CCH so convenient! We know pet parents have busy lives, working hard to provide for their dogs. That's why we offer the option to run your dog while you're running errands. We are fully licensed, insured, and bonded. We do encourage owners to be present for the initial visit to help get your dog comfortable on the treadmills. After that, you are welcome to catch some waves, run errands, or anything else you want.
  • What is your service area?
Right now we are providing services to dogs in Kaneohe, Kailua, Waimanalo, Hawaii Kai, and Honolulu. We hope to be expanding our services to accommodate the whole island soon! If you are unsure if you are in our service area, just send us a message!
  • How often is the gym and equipment cleaned?
Coming from a veterinary medicine background, we understand the importance of proper cleaning and sanitizing protocols. ALL equipment is sanitized after every use to ensure optimal safety for all our pawsome guests.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
We understand that life (and life with dogs) can be unpredictable and rescheduling or canceling may be needed. The client agrees to let us know, at minimum, by 8pm the day before their session. Cancellations made the same day will result in a $25 cancellation fee, and any sessions canceled within two hours of the scheduled time will be charged at full cost of the missed session.
